How I Became an Energy Healer: My Story

When I was a child, I felt energy.
I knew spirit existed. I knew there was something more than what the eye could see, and I don’t remember ever truly doubting that. Several times as a child, I saw electromagnetic fields, and I also saw negative entities. Spirit was always calling me, even before I had the language to explain what was happening.

I grew up feeling that I had special superpowers, but at the same time, I didn’t feel special at all. I spent most of my primary school years being bullied. I wasn’t very strong emotionally, and I wanted so badly to be liked and to fit in. I could feel so much, but I didn’t know what to do with it.
When I finished school back in 1998, I went through a huge betrayal from my best friend. It was premeditated, painful, and it sent me into the first truly dark and negative spiral of my life. Looking back now, I can see that this was one of the moments that opened the next doorway for me, even though at the time it felt devastating.
During that period, I went to see a beautician. She also happened to be a psychotherapist and healer. When she saw me, she said, “You are not here for beauty. I am going to read your iris.” But she did not perform iridology in the traditional way. She performed what I would now call an intuitive reading.
She told me she could see a lot of potential in me. She also knew I needed help at that time, and she offered to take me under her wing. I saw her for around two years, both for therapies and teachings.
After a weekend retreat together, where there was a lot of intense spiritual activity, which I honestly thought was fun, she told me our work together was complete. She said I was now going to be referred to my next spiritual teacher.
Soon after, a Wiccan teacher and priestess called me and told me she was going to train me in Tarot. So there I was, a 19-year-old girl travelling into the middle of Caracas to learn Tarot for 12 months. I also became part of a Wiccan group, and around that time I completed my first Vipassana meditation retreat.
A lot started opening for me then. I was already doing channel writing, using a pendulum, working with cards, connecting with spirit and my guides, and reading a lot of metaphysical books. I was fascinated by quantum science, energy, spirituality, and the mechanics of the universe.
Just before I finished university, around the age of 23 or 24, I was asked to leave the coven because I was no longer meeting the strict requirements of that Wiccan tradition. The truth is, I wanted to have fun with my friends. I wanted to connect with spirit because I wanted to, not because I had to. So after that, my practice became more personal. I trained as a yoga teacher, practised a lot of yoga, kept meditating, kept working with my cards, honoured the moon, and continued reading and learning on my own.
At the time, I was also working at my father’s printing business. One day, two spiritual teachers walked in to do some printing. After a few minutes of talking, we all realised why they were really there. Through them, I did my first energy healer course. They taught me about meridians, oracles, ceremony, acupuncture, chakras, and the energetic body. I trained with them, attended many events, and eventually started helping to create spiritual events too.

At 26, I moved to Australia. I was already practising Tarot, energy healing, yoga, meditation, and intuitive work, but I didn’t have all the Australian paperwork. So I had to do many things again. I completed an Energy Healer Practitioner Training in Brisbane, did my yoga teacher training again, and completed Reiki 1 and Reiki 2. Then my daughter was born, and I was able to be at home with her while slowly starting to see clients in a semi-professional way. I taught yoga from home, saw clients from home, and started going to markets to do Tarot readings.
Before I had my second daughter, something very powerful happened in Adelaide. One morning, between being asleep and awake, I heard spirit say, “Get dressed, go to the hospital and ask to do Reiki there.” So I got my baby dressed, went to the hospital, found the volunteering booth and said, “I want to do Reiki here.”
They sent me to Health Promotions, and when I arrived, they said, “Great, we are looking for someone like you.”
I volunteered as an energy healer at the hospital for 12 months, and I was also given a room where I could offer energy healing sessions to hospital staff, nurses, and other workers.
That opened so many doors for me. I gave talks for the Department of Primary Industries in South Australia, worked with the Cancer Council, and offered wellness sessions for corporate groups and organisations.
That experience changed something in me. It showed me how much this work is needed, but it also showed me how hard it would be to stand alone trying to bring complementary therapies into the medical system.
Later, we moved to New South Wales, where I trained in Access Bars and opened a beautiful healing centre. It had four practitioner rooms, a shop, and a yoga room. I used that space not only to teach yoga, but also to teach spiritual courses. I started offering small workshops and an intuitive development group, and that is where the Energy Healer Practitioner Training was born.
At the beginning, it was simply a day of teaching concepts around spiritual immunity, the electromagnetic field, and working with energy. But the more I taught, the more the training grew.
When we moved back to South Australia, my focus became writing, teaching, and seeing clients. I had already written a book in New South Wales, and Oracle of the Essences had begun there too, but it was truly born in South Australia. Around that time, I also started studying aromatherapy deeply, especially while writing the Oracle of the Essences.
South Australia was a beautiful chapter. I taught the Energy Healer Practitioner Training for many years. I taught Reiki, Access Bars, ceremonies, intuitive development, and many different spiritual and healing courses. It was a rich and creative time.
Then we moved back to Queensland, this time to the Sunshine Coast. My heart wanted to focus more on writing and teaching, but because I had to rebuild my business from scratch again, I also had to see a lot of clients. I have now been building my business here for four years, and I have continued teaching the Energy Healer Practitioner Training to beautiful students.

The essence of this training has never changed. For 10 years, it has always been about empowerment.
It began as a six-week training on Thursday nights. Then three hours wasn’t enough, so it became longer. Then it became eight weeks, then ten weeks, and eventually I had to add the retreat because there was so much information, healing, practice, and integration coming through.
The training just keeps getting better.
Not only because my confidence and experience have grown, but because of the beautiful paths of my students. I have watched them find their gifts, trust themselves, begin offering healing sessions, and step into their own spiritual work with more confidence.
Studying energy healing gave me the ability to build a career around my children and my family.
I have worked incredibly hard, but I am grateful that my children grew up seeing a different point of view around complementary therapies, energy healing, intuition, and the things we can do alongside allopathic medicine and medical treatments. I love that they now know there are options.
My dream has always been bigger than just seeing clients. After working at the hospital and seeing how hard it would be to fight alone for complementary therapies to have a stronger place in the medical system, I realised something. Maybe one of the most powerful ways to create change is to train more healers. To train nurses. To train carers. To train sensitive people. To support those who are already in helping professions and give them tools to work with energy, intuition, Reiki, spiritual protection, and the electromagnetic field.
I still dream of a world where nurses can offer Reiki in hospitals, where the energy field is understood as part of healing, and where spiritual and energetic wellbeing are respected within the medical and mental health systems.
That may sound like a big dream. But every healer trained is a ripple.
Every sensitive person who learns to trust their gifts becomes part of that change.
So when someone says to me, “I know I have the gifts, I just don’t have the confidence,” I understand.
Because I was not born confident. I was born sensitive. I was born aware.

I was born feeling the unseen world before I understood it. Confidence came later, through teachers, practice, training, healing, clients, mistakes, ceremonies, retreats, and years of learning to trust what spirit had been showing me all along.
This is why I created the Energy Healer Practitioner Training. For the sensitive ones. For the intuitive ones. For the ones who know there is something more inside them, but need structure, support, community, and confidence to finally use it.
With love,
Monica - The Enchantress
