How to Start Holding Space for Healing?

A guide for aspiring healers ready to step into sacred service

If you're intuitive, nurturing, and deeply drawn to the healing path – you've likely felt the inner call to be a safe presence for others. But how do you begin holding space in a meaningful, empowered way?


Holding space is both an art and a skill. It’s the foundation of energy healing and spiritual coaching, and it’s something you can learn to do with confidence, even before you're fully certified. In this post, we’ll explore what it means to hold space and how you can begin doing it with authenticity and grace.

You probably have heard the term “holding space”, but what does it actually mean?


Holding space means being fully present with someone, without judgment, advice, or the need to fix them. You are a calm and grounded container where they feel seen, safe and heard to process emotions or experiences. To digest what is happening. 


Most people feels better and find answers just by voicing out what is going on inside. 


In energy healing space holding, you’re not directing or controlling the healing – you’re gently witnessing and supporting the client’s natural process. You become a mirror, a sacred witness, and a channel of non-attached compassion.


This is especially important for empaths and spiritual practitioners who want to shift from “absorbing energy” to “transmuting and supporting with clarity.”

Ground Yourself Before You Guide Others


One of the most important spiritual coaching tips is this: you can only hold space when you are centered in your own energy.


Before stepping into a session (formal or informal), ground yourself. Here’s how:


  • Take 3 deep belly breaths and place your feet flat on the ground.

  • Visualize roots growing down from your feet into the earth.

  • Say quietly to yourself: “I am anchored. I am clear. I hold space from love, not ego.”

  • “What if I don’t know what to say?”

  • “What if I can’t give them the answer?”

  • “What if I say the wrong thing?”

  • “I’m witnessing you without judgment.”

Create Safe Containers (Even in Casual Settings)


Holding space doesn’t have to happen only in formal sessions. Whether you’re sitting with a friend, speaking at a women’s circle, or hosting your first client, you can create a sacred container with just a few intentional elements:


  1. Set energetic boundaries – Visualize a protective light around you and state internally: “Only energy that serves the highest good may enter this space.”

  2. Set expectations – You can say: “This space is for listening, not fixing. You don’t need to have it figured out.”

  3. Close the space properly – When the session or conversation ends, say something like: “Thank you for trusting me. We now gently close this space.”
