Black Spruce is part of the pine family. The fresh, woody scent is reminiscent of snow covered forestlands, but with a smoother, sweeter scent that most other evergreen oils. Distilled from the needles and branches of the Picea Mariana tree, Native Americans have been using Black Spruce for thousands of years in ointments, salves, and lotions to help with the healing of skin issues such as sores, wounds, and boils. They were also known to use the resin as a chewing gum and to lather on their skin to ward off insects.
